Essential Trekking Gear & Travel Notes
Ensure your mountain adventure is safe, warm, and well-prepared with the following gear list.
Clothing & Footwear
- Trekking boots – Durable and comfortable, with spare insoles.
- Comfortable shoes – Trainers or running shoes for use at camp.
- Socks – At least 2 pairs each of liner socks and thick outer socks.
- Trekking trousers – Lightweight and quick-drying.
- Shirts – Long-sleeved, loose-fitting, wash-and-wear; both warm and lightweight.
- T-shirts & undergarments – Several sets for layering and comfort.
- Thermal underwear – One complete set for cold nights.
- Insulated jacket – Down-filled or thermal, suitable for high altitudes.
- Rain gear – Lightweight rain cape or Gore-Tex jacket with hood.
- Gloves or mittens – For warmth and protection.
- Hats – Warm beanie for cold weather; wide-brimmed sunhat for UV protection.
Sleeping & Packing
- Sleeping bag – Rated for temperatures down to –5°C.
- Stuff sacks – Nylon bags with drawstrings for organizing supplies.
- Plastic bags – To keep spare clothes dry and organized.
- Backpack – Comfortable, with proper support for carrying essentials.
Essentials & Personal Items
- Waterproof matches – Stored in a dry bag.
- Mini sewing kit – Include scissors and safety pins.
- Water bottle – Reusable and durable.
- Moleskin/plasters – For preventing and treating blisters.
- Skincare – Lip balm, high-SPF sunscreen, sunblock, and moisturizer.
- Sunglasses/glacier glasses – UV protection is essential at high altitudes.
- Miscellaneous – Map, notebook, pen, personal first aid kit, and a pocketknife.

- Gear Purchase: Sleeping bags and backpacks are available at Higher Mountain Equipment Company, Lahore or in Skardu’s second-hand gear market.
- Mobile Connectivity:
- SCOM Tourist SIM is reliable in most trekking areas including Askoli, Concordia, K2 Base Camp, and below Hushey.
- Other networks only work in cities like Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, etc.
- SCOM SIMs are available in Skardu Main Bazaar.
